The fine print, made clear

Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Big Recipe Book handles when you create an account, import recipes, record ingredients you have and build your personal collection.

Last updated 10 October 2026

Information we collect

We collect the account information needed to sign you in, such as your email address and an account identifier. We also store the recipes, collections, personal notes, pantry, fridge and cupboard ingredient names, confirmed ingredient matches, weekly meal plans, reusable plans and shopping lists that you choose to save.

When you import a recipe, we receive the website address, recipe text, photo or document you submit so we can find the recipe details. Uploaded source files are stored privately while the recipe is read, deleted after the draft is created and automatically removed within one day if processing is abandoned. If an imported PDF contains a recipe photo, a private copy of that photo is kept with the saved recipe until you delete the recipe or your account. We also record a small set of product events, such as starting signup, completing an import or creating a first shopping list. These events contain an account or random browser-session identifier, timestamp and fixed technical labels; they do not contain recipe titles, ingredients, notes, source addresses, uploaded files or shopping-list text.

How we use information

We use your information to provide the service, authenticate your account, import and save recipes, compare saved recipe ingredients with the ingredient names you record, maintain your weekly plans and shopping lists, measure whether core features are useful, troubleshoot problems, protect the service and respond to support requests.

Storage and service providers

Big Recipe Book uses Amazon Web Services for hosting, authentication, data storage, text recognition, aggregated product measurement and operational logging. A per-user browser cache may also keep recipe, pantry, plan and shopping-list data on your device to make the service more resilient.

We do not sell your personal information. We disclose information only to service providers that help us operate Big Recipe Book, when required by law, or when necessary to protect the service and its users.

Recipe imports and third-party sites

When you provide a public recipe URL, our service requests that page to extract recipe information. The website you import from is governed by its own privacy policy, and its operator may receive normal web-request information.

Retention and your choices

We keep your account, saved recipes, pantry items and confirmed matches, reusable plans, meal plans and shopping lists while your account remains active. Product events expire automatically after 90 days. You can delete individual recipes, pantry items, plan items, templates and shopping-list items at any time. Removing a pantry item also removes its confirmed matches. You can also use the account deletion control to remove your account and associated active data. Some limited records may remain temporarily in backups or operational logs where required for security, reliability or legal compliance.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect your information. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so please use a strong, unique password and protect access to your email account.

Children

Big Recipe Book is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above shows the latest revision. Questions or privacy requests can be sent to abstractcs65@gmail.com.
